PLAY TOURNAMENT GOLF THIS SPRING AND SUMMER
I thought it would be great for everybody in the golf academy to join a tour and either experience or fully engage tournament golf this spring and summer.
For those new to golf or looking for a more fun tournament environment, the Junior Linksters Tour looks great. There is a $50 membership fee and students will be required to play 5 events if they wish to qualify for summer and travel teams.
I have been speaking with Murray Poje at Tsawwassen Springs and am excited for students to start or continue playing on the Maple Leaf Junior Tour. Membership is $139, but students are welcome to play a tournament to try the tour without any additional charge. After that a surcharge will be applied for non-members. This can be reimbursed if students eventually join as full members. This tour seems very well run and looks to be inclusive yet very competitive.
The Zone 4 tournaments are the most affordable, but also the most difficult to play. They do not have an initial membership fee or any fee for that matter and all of their events are 30 dollars which is applicable when the player is accepted. Players must keep an official handicap (http://golfcanada.ca/join/) that is at least a 12 index to get them started. The player may then register by going to the Zone 4 website and going to the link for Junior tour and follow the prompts. Players must either live in Zone 4 or be a playing member of a Zone 4 golf club.
The Canadian Junior Golf Association or CJGA hosts over 100 tournaments and will start up in March. Membership and registration costs are $149 and then tournaments roughly cost an additional $80 for the Junior Linkster events or $160-180 for the Under 19 division events. Further information can be found on the website regarding levels of competition and registration application.
